MoD cuts: Military families 'feel deserted'

Military families "feel deserted" because of redundancies and other pressures, a spokesperson for the Army Families Federation has said.

Julie McCarthy said that it was especially difficult for those losing their posts as they would not only lose their jobs but also their "whole lifestyles".

Her comments came on a day when 930 RAF and 920 Army personnel learned that they were being made redundant - including 750 compulsory redundancies.

The Army and RAF will eventually cut 7,000 and 5,000 posts respectively as part of the government's Strategic Defence Review.
