NoW surveillance: News International may have spied on MPs

The Labour MP Tom Watson has said he is considering his next move after allegations emerged that he was being monitored by a private investigator employed by the News of the World.

Mark Lewis, a lawyer who represents phone-hacking victims, told Radio 5 live he was going to sue News International for damages after finding out that he was secretly spied on.

In an interview, Mr Lewis also said he had seen evidence that MPs on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, which investigated News International for phone hacking, had also been targeted.

News International has since said the action was "deeply inappropriate" and "not condoned by any current executives at the company".

Mr Watson told Radio 5 live's Shelagh Fogarty of his shock.
