Alastair Campbell: "Daily Mail made up my father's death"

Alastair Campbell has related his experience of what he sees as newspapers' common practice of undermining public figures by publishing sensitive stories about their families.

Speaking at the Leveson Inquiry into media ethics, the former Labour spin doctor said he once received an apology from the Daily Mail after it published a story about the impact that his father's death had had on him.

Mr Campbell's father was alive at the time.
