Who is better off - private or public sector workers?

Reform of public sector pensions is necessary, according to the government, because of the dismal state of the country's finances.

Between a fifth and a quarter of people with a job work for the state, although in some parts of the country, it is a much higher proportion.

Many of the very large number of people who work in the private sector, and who contribute to the taxes which fund public sector workers' pensions, say they do not know they are born.

Newsnight, external's Shaun Ley has tried to find out who is really better off - public or private sector workers.
