Phone hacking a 'bog-standard journalistic tool'

A former Daily Mirror journalist has claimed that phone hacking was a "bog-standard journalistic tool" at the newspaper.

James Hipwell, who was jailed in 2006 for writing about firms whose shares he owned, said he witnessed repeated privacy infringements at the paper.

He told the Leveson inquiry into press standards that it was 'very unlikely' that the former editor, Piers Morgan, had not known it was going on.

Piers Morgan had told the inquiry he had no reason to believe that phone hacking was going on under his leadership.
