Treasury plans to introduce local pay for public sector

The Treasury plans to introduce localised pay for public sector workers to account for the regional variations in the the cost of living.

The scheme would mean that the salaries of staff like teachers and nurses would vary, depending on where they are based in England and Wales.

But critics claim it would create 'employment ghettos'.
