Does the UK's aid programme win business contracts?

The UK gives hundreds of millions of pounds to India in aid partly because it's good for British business, according to the International Development Secretary, Andrew Mitchell.

The example he gave was the attempts to sell warplanes to the Indian airforce. But it has emerged that India's government may give a major order to France instead.

So is the strategy worth it?
