Undercover police officer 'defied' bosses

A police officer who spent seven years working undercover in an environmental protest group "defied" instructions, a report has said.

The police inspectorate review said Mark Kennedy's work helped uncover "serious criminality" but he was not properly supervised.

The report, which also looked at other undercover officers' work, called for the oversight of such police operations to be strengthened.

Tom Symonds reports.
