Leveson Inquiry: NOTW editor 'never used phone hacking'

The former News of The World show business editor has told the Leveson Inquiry stories he almost always checked stories with the celebrities involved in them.

Dan Wootton said none of his stories were gathered using deceptive means and phone hacking had never been used.

Meanwhile Deputy Assistant Commissioner Sue Akers confirmed the Metropolitan Police believe 829 people were "likely" victims of phone hacking by newspapers.

She is overseeing three investigations involving claims of newspaper hacking. Ninety police staff are involved in Operation Weeting.
