Southampton council leader honoured for submarine bravery

The leader of Southampton council Royston Smith has been honoured for his part in disarming a man with a gun during a council visit to HMS Astute when it was docked in Southampton harbour.

Able Seaman Ryan Donovan shot Lieutenant Commander Ian Molyneux dead on the submarine before the councillor was able to wrestle him to the ground. He said getting the George Medal was an honour tinged with sadness
