How effective are new GPS tags for offenders?

The Ministry of Justice has launched a consultation on extending the use of community sentences as an alternative to custody.

The proposals include greater use of more sophisticated GPS tags which allow police to monitor offenders' locations and know if they have entered areas from which they have been banned.

The BBC's Tom Symonds was fitted with a new type of tag to see how effective the system can be.
