Renditions 'sanctioned at highest level', says Belhadj's lawyer

The BBC has learned that lawyers for the Libyan military commander, Abdul Hakim Belhadj, are suing the former foreign secretary, Jack Straw.

They allege he signed papers which allowed Mr Belhadj's rendition to Colonel Gaddafi's regime by the CIA in 2004.

Sapna Malik, from the law firm, Leigh Day, said whoever signed off their client's flight to Libya would have understood the implications.
