Abu Qatada lodges appeal with ECHR

Abu Qatada has submitted an appeal with the European Court of Human Rights. His lawyers say it is within the deadline imposed by the court, but the Home Office is challenging the timing of the appeal.

A senior legal source has told the BBC he believes the government got its timings wrong over the arrest of the radical cleric.

The Justice Secretary Ken Clarke is playing down the confusion over the case, describing the media coverage as "hysterical angst".

Andy Moore reports.
