Cable on General Motors' investment

It has been announced that Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port car factory will build at least 160,000 Astra cars a year, in a deal that secures the future of the plant and protects thousands of jobs.

Owner General Motors has confirmed a £125m investment in the plant and said that up to £1bn would be spent in the UK supply chain.

The announcement followed a vote by Vauxhall staff in favour of a new pay and conditions deal. More than 2,100 staff work at the plant.

The Business Secretary Vince Cable told the BBC that General Motors is continuing to invest in the UK because of the country's, "good tax environment and flexible labour force".
