Cable had 'independent mind' over BSkyB
Business Secretary Vince Cable has told the Leveson Inquiry into media ethics that he acted with an 'independent mind' when considering News Corporation's bid for BSkyB.
He said that did not mean having a 'blank' mind and that most people in public life have opinions. His job was to 'set those to one side' when acting in a quasi-judicial role.
The Lib Dem MP was explaining his involvement in the BSkyB bid before responsibility for it passed to Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt after Mr Cable was secretly recorded saying he had "declared war" on News Corp boss Rupert Murdoch.
