Embrace English identity - Ed Miliband

The Labour party leader Ed Miliband has said English people should not "shudder about the flag of St George" and should "embrace an English identity as well as a British identity".

He criticised the SNP saying it was forcing people to be either Scottish or British, whereas he believed that it was not necessary to make a choice and that Scots could be both.

He was being interviewed for BBC Radio 4's PM programme by Eddie Mair who asked him first about his own identity.

Radio 4's PM programme provides coverage and analysis of the day's news from Monday to Saturday at 1700.
