It's a washout: June was UK's wettest on record

After a soggy April and a rain-soaked May, the Met Office has now confirmed that June 2012 was the wettest June in the UK since records began.

Union Jack umbrellas were out if force for the Queen's Jubilee celebrations, while the Olympic torchbearers and Wimbledon tennis crowds also faced challenging conditions.

For some the weather posed more serious problems. Flash flooding in large parts of the UK left trains stranded and thousands without power, while many families were forced from their homes.
