Theresa May: No specific threat to games

The Government has confirmed that 3,500 extra soldiers are to be drafted in to man checkpoints at the Olympics.

The decision has been taken because the private security firm G4S can not recruit, and vet enough staff in time for the Games, due to start in a fortnight.

Labour say it's a "shambles".

However, the Home Secretary Theresa May told the Commons it was a "prudent" decision. Ms May said that the people involved will not be left out of pocket due to cancellation of holiday, and that thousands of tickets would be offered to them in recognition of their help.
