Llanwrtyd Wells in Wales hosts World Alternative Games

A Welsh town famed for its peculiar sports is staging an unusual alternative to the Olympics.

Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys is hosting the World Alternative Games, where competitors take part in a range of disciplines, from worm charming and gravy wrestling to Russian egg roulette.

Organisers have devised a total of 35 events over the two-week Games with an equally unusual emphasis away from victory, as the gold, silver and bronze medals contain the inscription: "Taking part is more important than winning".
