Inside the Youth Contract scheme

The government has announced the creation of a new Youth Contract in a bid to help the more than one million young people under the age of 25 are not in employment, education or training, the so-called Neets.

The scheme offers a financial incentive to employers to take on young people, as well as additional help for those seeking work. This morning, the all-party Work and Pensions Select Committee warned that the contract, though welcome, will not alone be enough to deal with the scale of youth unemployment.
