Jimmy Savile scandal: BBC boss 'asked about rumours'

A former controller of BBC Radio 1 has said he questioned Jimmy Savile about rumours over his private life more than 20 years ago.

Derek Chinnery, who was the network's controller from 1978-85, said he asked Savile about the rumours, "and he said 'that's all nonsense'."

Police believe the presenter may have sexually abused 60 people in incidents dating back to 1959.

Nick Higham reports.
