Government to launch investigation into Welsh abuse inquiry

Downing Street says no stone will be left unturned to get to the truth about claims of child sexual abuse at care homes in north Wales.

Concerns have been raised that the remit of the Waterhouse inquiry, into abuse in the 1970s and 80s, was too narrow and that it had failed to consider all allegations made.

The prime minister said an independent figure would investigate whether the report, published in 2000, did its job properly.

David Cameron said he wanted the inquiry to be "a rapid investigation" to get to the truth of these "dreadful allegations."
