Ben Bradshaw: 'Entwistle has been badly let down'

The Director General of the BBC, George Entwistle, has resigned less than two months after taking up the post.

He had faced growing criticism over a Newsnight report last week which wrongly implicated the former Conservative treasurer Lord McAlpine in allegations of child abuse.

The programme did not name the peer, but he was later linked to the claims on the internet.

Labour MP and former Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw said Mr Entwistle "has been done a terrible injustice".
