Environment Secretary urges public to 'pay attention to information'

The Environment Secretary, Owen Paterson, has been seeking to reassure people affected by flooding that the Government is "doing everything it can to help".

Speaking to the BBC in Exeter, Mr Paterson urged the public to pay attention to the information being put out saying, "We have had some real tragedies over the past few days and these are avoidable if people would pay real attention to the information we are giving out".

North-east England and north Wales are braced for possible flooding as the weather front which brought heavy rain to southern England moves north.
