Miliband backs Leveson over new body to regulate press

Labour leader Ed Miliband has said Lord Justice Leveson's recommendations should be accepted in their entirety.

He said he agreed "there should be a new, truly independent body" to regulate the press.

It follows recommendations from Lord Justice Leveson for a tougher form of self-regulation backed by legislation to uphold press standards.

He said the press had "wreaked havoc in the lives of innocent people" for many decades, and hoped his proposals would protect the rights of victims and people bringing complaints.
