Derby fire deaths: Mick Philpott denies changing story

A father who lost six of his children in a fire has denied changing his story to fit the facts.

The prosecution said Mick Philpott went back on an initial claim that he saw the stairs alight, when he realised this clashed with his being in the kitchen.

But he told Nottingham Crown Court he had been confused in the immediate aftermath of the fire.

Mr Philpott, his wife Mairead Philpott and friend Paul Mosley all deny the manslaughter of the children in Derby.

Phil Mackie reports.
