Police chief: Birmingham terrorists posed real risk
Eleven members of a Birmingham terror cell have been jailed for their part in plot which prosecutors say could have been more devastating than the 7 July attacks in London.
The group planned to set off up to eight bombs hidden in rucksacks.
A judge at Woolwich Crown Court said the ring-leader, Irfan Naseer, wanted to turn Birmingham into a "little war zone". He was jailed for at least 18 years.
Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale from West Midlands Police told Dominic Casciani the threat posed was very real.
