Rebels 'launching new Darfur attacks'

Aid agencies say that since January this year 300,000 people have fled their homes following renewed fighting in Darfur. That number is in addition to the 1.5 million still living in camps and the estimated 300,000 people who've lost their lives since the start of the troubles in 2003.

Today programme correspondent, Mike Thomson spoke to the influential chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority, Dr Eltigani Seisi, who said that over the last few years rebels have come back to Darfur and have "started to launch attacks".

Dr Seisi said that Sudan's government are "absolutely" taking atrocities such as rape and murder seriously, adding that "cases are being investigated."
