CQC 'needs to be open and honest'

The Care Quality Commission has been berated for its failings in recent days. Robert Francis QC, whose report on Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundational Trust exposed the scandal that caused public outrage, observes whether the CQC can be adequately reformed.

Robert Francis QC said there needed to be a "change in attitude" at the CQC.

"It's the kind of attitude that doesn't involve patients in the journey of discovering what went wrong with their care, it's the attitude which pretends everything can be done, what's called in the system the 'can do' attitude, and what we actually need instead of that is a determination to be open , honest and transparent," he added.
