50 Shades effect 'behind' rising 999 handcuff callouts

Firefighters in London have reported a rise in the number of 999 calls from people stuck in objects such as handcuffs and toilet seats.

Station Manager Mark Blomfield believes people may have been trying to re-enact scenes from erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Phil Williams, "It's a very, very embarrassing thing and generally there are four or five firefighters there... but sometimes a little bit of light humour can relieve the tension of the situation."
