Semi-precious stone Blue John 'discovered under carpet'

In 1945, a miner called John Royse discovered a seam of Blue John stone, an ornamental stone used in jewellery, in a cavern in the Peak District.

Mr Royse told 19-year-old Peter Harrison about his find, but then died before he could show him where it was.

Almost seven decades later Mr Harrison explained the "lost" vein of rare Blue John stone was rediscovered in a Peak District cavern after a 68-year search.

Speaking to Today presenter Justin Webb, Mr Harrison explained that the stone had been found when a piece of carpet in the mine was moved.
