British women in Zanzibar acid attack

Two British women have had acid thrown in their faces on the east African island of Zanzibar, police have said.

Katie Gee and Kirstie Trup, both 18, were working as charity volunteer teachers on the island.

They were flown to Dar es Salaam in mainland Tanzania for treatment, but their injuries were not said to be life threatening.

Their mothers, Nicky Gee and Rochelle Trup, said they expected them to return to the UK on Thursday night.

Alastair Leithead reports.
