Keith Vaz on use of terror law to detain journalist's partner

The chairman of the Home Affairs select committee has told the Today programme he will ask the police why the partner of a Guardian journalist was questioned at Heathrow under terror laws.

Keith Vaz told the Today programme's James Naughtie the full facts of David Miranda's nine-hour detention must be established quickly.

Brazil has expressed "grave concerns" that Mr Miranda, a Brazilian citizen, was detained.

Mr Miranda is the partner of Glenn Greenwald, who has written about the US whistleblower, Edward Snowden.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 19 August 2013.
