'Vile chanting has no place at football games'

Football supporters are being warned that police and prosecutors intend to clamp down on the abuse of players and fellow fans - both at games and online.

New guidelines for tackling hooligans in England and Wales also address homophobic chanting for the first time.

Nick Hawkins, from the Crown Prosecution Service, spoke to BBC Breakfast to explain more about the problem of football hooliganism in the modern era.

He said that problems were caused by "a small minority" and that the "vile chanting" heard at some grounds had no place in society.
