Badger cull 'necessary', says National Farmers Union

The National Farmers' Union (NFU) says the pilot badger cull project in England is a "very carefully thought-out policy."

NFU President Peter Kendall says the cull is necessary to prevent the spread of tuberculosis to cattle, adding that 38,000 infected cattle had to be killed last year.

He pointed to projects in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland as examples of good practice.
