Inside the Military Corrective Training Centre in Essex
Over the summer a former SAS sniper was found guilty of illegally possessing hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a Glock pistol.
Danny Nightingale was detained at the Military Corrective Training Centre (MCTC) in Essex.
MCTC is the country's only custodial facility for service personnel that break military laws.
Detainees are stripped of their ranks and demoted to the equivalent of a Private in the army.
The Today programme's reporter Sima Kotecha was the first journalist in at least five years to have been given access to the centre. She went to find out if there are lessons to be learnt for the UK's mainstream jails.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 28 August 2013.
