Knife-wielding robber scared off with a shoe and a glass jar

Police have released CCTV from a petrol station which appears to show a shop assistant fighting off two knife-wielding robbers using only his shoe and a glass jar.

The attack happened during the early hours at the service station on Manchester Road in Westhoughton, Greater Manchester.

The shop assistant chased the two men from the shop despite being stabbed in the arm.

Police have praised the man's "heroic" actions and are appealing for witnesses to the attack on 14 September.

"In particular we need to hear from the woman who walked in only moments before but didn't stick around to give the police her account probably because she was so shaken up."

They say the offenders were black men - the one with the knife was about 6ft tall, of medium build and in his early to mid 20s; his accomplice was about 5ft 9in tall.
