Council apologises for failures in Daniel Pelka case

Martin Reeves, Chief Executive of Coventry City Council, has said that every agency responsible for child protection in Coventry "needs to stand up and take responsibility, individually and collectively".

Mr Reeves said that the council was "sorry we were not able to protect Daniel better"

The council has asked for an immediate external independent investigation of the safeguarding practice within the school Daniel attended. Mr Reeves said he did not want to pre-empt the investigation, but added "If there are any disciplinary issues then we will act decisively".
