Minister: HS2 will benefit UK

The transport secretary, Patrick McLoughlin has said that the HS2 high-speed rail project will bring benefits to the whole country.

Details of potential losses that HS2 could cause in around 50 regional economies as calculated by consultants KPMG have been revealed by BBC Newsnight.

But Mr McLoughlin said that he wanted to see every part of the UK benefit from HS2.
