Nottinghamshire police dogs offered £1,500 'pensions'

Nottinghamshire Police have announced plans to offer "pensions" for police dogs.

The scheme means the animals would receive £1,500 for medical treatment after they leave the service.

Due to their training the dogs cannot be re-housed with new families and instead have to be cared for by handlers.

Paddy Tipping, the police and crime commissioner for Nottinghamshire told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "Vets fees can be pretty large and I think we've got a responsibility to give the dogs a decent retirement."
