Plain cigarette packaging to be reviewed

Unbranded packaging for cigarettes in England could be introduced if a review confirms that the measure would discourage smoking.

The government has announced an independent inquiry into the policy.

Ministers had shelved plans for plain packets earlier in the year, because they said they wanted to assess the effectiveness of the measure in Australia.
