MPs recommend voting rights for short term prisoners

A cross-party government committee has said that prisoners should be allowed to vote if they are serving a short sentence, or approaching the end of a sentence.

MPs have not previously supported prisoner voting rights, despite a European Court of Human Rights ruling that the UK ban is unlawful.
