Storms return to batter the UK, flood warnings in place

Heavy rain and gales have left a trail of damage across much of the United Kingdom - just days after the last storm flooded homes and cut off electricity for tens of thousands of people.

The Met Office issued an amber "be prepared" warning of gusts up to 80mph in north Wales and northern England. Rail services have been disrupted, while road closures have been reported around the UK because of uprooted trees.

50 flood warnings are in place in England, Wales and Scotland.
