UK storms: Insurance companies aim for quick response

Gales and rain have returned to the UK, causing further disruption to transport and the power network.

More than 50 flood warnings have been issued in England, Wales and Scotland, with rain falling on saturated ground.

Malcolm Tarling from the Association of British Insurers said "only a couple of inches of flood water can cause damage of anything between £20,000 and £40,000. So flooding is not only very distressing, very traumatic, sometimes I'm afraid tragic - it's also expensive as well."
