Child care costs rise by 77% says research

The cost of raising a child to the age of 21 has risen to £227,000, new research suggests.

Figures from insurance company LV suggest parents spend around £73,000 on education, £20,000 on food and £66,000 on childcare.

Ellen Broome, from the Family and Childcare Trust, claims the cost of childcare alone is having a huge impact on parents.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live's Morning Reports, Ms Broome said: "Parents are finding it increasingly unaffordable to go back to work because costs are rising faster than their wages."
