World War One's financial crisis - parallels with 2008

In the centenary year of the outbreak of World War One, new light is being shed on one of the greatest financial crises which Britain has ever suffered.

Documents released by the Bank of England archive reveal the extent of the chaos, which brought a total breakdown of the financial markets, queues at the banks and soaring interest rates.
