Wythenshawe by-election: Coalition support 'shrivelling'

Labour leader Ed Miliband has said that the coalition's support is "shrivelling", after his party's win in the Wythenshawe and Sale East by-election.

Labour held on to its seat with a comfortable majority, while UKIP beat the Conservatives to second place. The Liberal Democrats lost their deposit for the eighth time since the last general election.

Speaking on a visit to Wythenshawe, Mr Miliband said the result showed Labour was "expanding and growing its support".
