Rifkind: 'Crucial' to work with Islamic leaders

It is "crucial" to work more closely with leaders of the Islamic community to combat extremism, parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee chairman Sir Malcolm Rifkind has said.

His comments come after a former member of al-Qaeda has spoken out about his experiences in the organisation. Sir Malcolm told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that it is important to give "very careful thought" to the views of this unnamed individual, given that he had been at the "heart" of al-Qaeda.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 3 March.
