Network Rail crossings apology 'meaningless' - victim's father

Network Rail has offered a "full and unreserved apology" to families bereaved by level crossing accidents.

Chief executive Mark Carne apologised for "failings" in managing public safety and for "failing to deal sensitively" with affected families.

The apology came as an MPs' report strongly criticised Network Rail's handling of tragedies in the past.

Reg Thompson, whose 13 year old daughter Charlotte was killed when she was hit by a train in 2005, said that coming so late the apology was 'meaningless'.
