Same-sex marriage: 'Important to upgrade' civil partnerships

It is "incredibly important" for same-sex couples in civil partnerships to be able to "upgrade" to marriage, Stonewall's chief executive Ruth Hunt has said.

While gay marriage becomes legal on 29 March, there is still no date set on which couples in existing civil partnerships can get married.

Paul Atwal-Brice, currently in a civil partnership, said couples are now "waiting for the government" to sort out the delay.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Thursday 13 March.
